A new study by British physician James Bond is a raging alcoholic with risk of impotence

A thorough examination of the books of Ian Fleming by a group of British doctors revealed the true nature of spy 007 : with 92 units of alcohol consumed on average per week, James Bond is a raging alcoholic , writes AFP .

"It is known for its love of cigarettes , alcohol and women, and his fetish phrase ' Vodka Martini , Shaken , Not Stirred ! " Said the three doctors who signed the original study published in the British medical journal BMJ .

Three doctors examined 12 Fleming novels that tells the adventures of British secret agent to appreciate the exact amount of alcohol ingested .

The result: the secret agent drink especially when mission : "There is only one mention of alcohol off duty ."

In the 12 books, doctors have counted a total of 1,150 units of alcohol consumed by 007 . A unit of alcohol in the UK equates to 10 ml or 8 g of pure alcohol (compared to 10 grams in other countries ) .

Excluding the calculation days jail , hospitalization or convalescence, we can assume that James Bond does not drink , the agent consumes on average 92 alcohol units per week , ie 736 grams of alcohol .

The World Health Organization set at 210 grams per week ( or 3 glasses of wine per day) limit : beyond consumption is deemed excessive . It becomes "risk" since 280 grams and " harmful " than 420 grams.

" Alcohol 's weekly James Bond is four times higher than the maximum recommended dose for an adult male ," says Dr Patrick Davies, a pediatrician at a public hospital in Nottingham , co -signer of the article.

007 shows a " significant risk of developing liver disease , cirrhosis , become impotent or have other health problems related to alcohol or seriously injuring himself and die from alcoholism ," according to the article.

" We recognize that attending international terrorist ( ... ) can lead to alcohol consumption, but I recommend Mr. Bond to go to the doctor ( ... ) and reduce drink less dangerous levels ," concludes physicians .

Spain aims to sell with 100 mililoan euros a "ghost" airport on which they spent 1 billion

Spain wants to get 100 million on an airport which cost € 1 billion , opened in 2009 in a town of 75,000 inhabitants , but closed in April last year due to very low traffic , writes the British newspaper Financial Times said on Tuesday. The airport, in immaculate condition , has 4 miles of track and was built for traffic of 10 million passengers per year.

Airport includes a visitors' center , a vast industrial park and a control tower 50 meters high. It also has good access to the national highways and generous parking

The project was completed in 2009 , shortly after the collapse of the real estate market in Spain, at a cost to private investors and regional authorities over 1 billion euros. Administrators will remove months to sell ' ghost airport "in Ciudad Real, writes the Financial Times.

Opened with high hopes in 2009 , the airport has never attracted more than a few flights per week , well below capacity. No plane has not landed in Ciudad Real in April last year, when it was officially closed .

CR Aeropuertos company , terminal operator in Ciudad Real, went bankrupt three years ago , and the airport will be auctioned to pay debts to creditors.

The sale will begin Monday and will end on December 29 , according to a press release by the administrators . The bidders will have to propose prices for over 100 million and is equivalent guarantees 5% of the tender amount .

"So far no firm offers have been submitted , but there are several interested parties and we expect Monday to be transmitted proposals ," said Francisco Perez , one of the administrators .

Ciudad Real, a regional capital with only 75,000 inhabitants , is located midway between Madrid and Cordoba, in less populated area of Castilla -La Mancha . In the region there is significant industrial activity , the city attracts few visitors , especially from abroad .

According to the Spanish statistics , the number of overnight stays of foreign visitors in Ciudad Real is 1300-1500 per month.

The strong contrast between the capacity of the airport too obvious lack of demand and make the airport a symbol of the excesses of the boom years of Spain .

The initial decision to appoint Don Quixote Ciudad Real airport after the hero who is fighting imaginary opponents of the author Miguel de Cervantes , has aggravated the trouble . The name was changed to Ciudad Real Central.

According to the administrator, isolation and good transport legaurile might be useful to companies involved in aircraft maintenance , their long-term stationing or other similar business .

Administrators hope that a final decision on the eventual auction had earned to be taken up in February.

NLM announces activation of Emergency Access Initiative

"The National Library of Medicine announces the activation of the Emergency Access Initiative in support of medical efforts in Japan following the devastating earthquake and tsunami.   The Emergency Access Initiative is a collaborative partnership between NLM and participating publishers to provide free access to full-text articles from over 230 biomedical serial titles and over 65 reference books and online databases to healthcare professionals and libraries affected by disasters. 

The Emergency Access Initiative serves as a temporary collection replacement and/or supplement for libraries affected by disasters that need to continue to serve medical staff and affiliated users.  It is also intended for medical personnel responding to the specified disaster. 

EAI is not an open access collection - it is only intended for those affected by the disaster or assisting the affected population.  If your library is working with a library or organization involved in relief efforts in Japan, please let them know of this service.
