China will relax the only child policy - official

China will relax the strict birth control policy , called ' single child ' and which was imposed in 1979  announced Friday the official New China News Agency , quoted by AFP .

Thus, couples in which one member is a single child will be allowed to have two children, Xinhua said , evoking a " major reform " , announced four days at the end of an important meeting of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Currently , the law authorizes only one child per family , but there are exceptions for couples in which both members only child .

"Politics births will be adjusted and improved gradually to promote ' balanced long-term growth of China's population ,'" wrote Xinhua , referring pa CCP leaders adopted a decision this week.

Despite growing calls continue to relax the strict rules on family planning , communist leaders have supported so far by way of the one child policy remains constant as required and that excessive demographic development would threaten the country's economic growth .
