A thorough examination of the books of Ian Fleming by a group of British doctors revealed the true nature of spy 007 : with 92 units of alcohol consumed on average per week, James Bond is a raging alcoholic , writes AFP .
"It is known for its love of cigarettes , alcohol and women, and his fetish phrase ' Vodka Martini , Shaken , Not Stirred ! " Said the three doctors who signed the original study published in the British medical journal BMJ .
Three doctors examined 12 Fleming novels that tells the adventures of British secret agent to appreciate the exact amount of alcohol ingested .
The result: the secret agent drink especially when mission : "There is only one mention of alcohol off duty ."
In the 12 books, doctors have counted a total of 1,150 units of alcohol consumed by 007 . A unit of alcohol in the UK equates to 10 ml or 8 g of pure alcohol (compared to 10 grams in other countries ) .
Excluding the calculation days jail , hospitalization or convalescence, we can assume that James Bond does not drink , the agent consumes on average 92 alcohol units per week , ie 736 grams of alcohol .
The World Health Organization set at 210 grams per week ( or 3 glasses of wine per day) limit : beyond consumption is deemed excessive . It becomes "risk" since 280 grams and " harmful " than 420 grams.
" Alcohol 's weekly James Bond is four times higher than the maximum recommended dose for an adult male ," says Dr Patrick Davies, a pediatrician at a public hospital in Nottingham , co -signer of the article.
007 shows a " significant risk of developing liver disease , cirrhosis , become impotent or have other health problems related to alcohol or seriously injuring himself and die from alcoholism ," according to the article.
" We recognize that attending international terrorist ( ... ) can lead to alcohol consumption, but I recommend Mr. Bond to go to the doctor ( ... ) and reduce drink less dangerous levels ," concludes physicians .
