Phase Springer Materials is a rich resource for critically evaluated physical & chemical data and comprises the contents of the Landolt-Börnstein New Book Series (> 400 volumes) plus its electronic supplementary material. New database trial - SpringerImages

SpingerImages SpringerImages is a collection of scientific images in the scientific, technical and medical fields, including high-quality clinical images from images.MD.   The continually updated collection, currently with over 1.5 million images, includes photos, graphs, histograms, figures, and tables. 

The trial lasts until Oct. 31, 2009.

Library has trial to Global Health until June 29th

child drinking from well The Global Health database is dedicated to public health research and practice.  More than 3,500 journals from over 158 countries in 50 languages are abstracted, and all relevant non-English language papers are translated to give access to research not available through any other database.  Global Health contains over 1.2 million scientific records from 1973 to the present.

Congratulations to winners of the 2008-2009 John Crerar Foundation Science Writing Prize for College Students competition

Congratulations to Laura Felley who won 1st place with her paper entitled The discovery of the polymerase chain reaction: A scientific (and personal) journey.

CSA Illustrata

Hurricane is the first in a series of CSA Illustrata databases of searchable tables, figures, graphs, charts and other illustrations from the scholarly research and technical literature.   Researchers can search the captions, text and other descriptive information of individual illustrations to discover information that was previously buried within the article. 

The Library currently has a trial to CSA Illustrata that will run through March 23, 2008.  Try it today and then send your comments to Andrea Twiss-Brooks (atbrooks@uchicago.edu).

Free trial -- INSPEC on Engineering Village

INSPEC, a multidisciplinary physics and engineering database, is available on a trial basis from the Engineering Village interface.  This interface is already currently in use for accessing Compendex, an applied science, engineering and technology database.   Coverage of INSPEC goes back to 1898 and includes records from the print Science Abstracts volumes, making this an excellent resource for early 20th century modern history of science and technology.

Geobase, a multidisciplinary resource for earth sciences, ecology, geomechanics, human geography, and oceanography is also available on this trial.
