Royal Society of Chemistry e-books now available

RSCbookcover The Library has recently added the entire current and backfile collection of the Royal Society of Chemistry e-books.  Records will be added to the Library catalog and Lens over the next few weeks, but you may also access the e-books collection at RSC e-books search page.  This collection contains more than 800 titles, including the Science of Chocolate (pictured left).

Aluka - new database

AlukaAluka's African Plants collection includes scientific data contributed by more than 50 institutions in Africa, Europe, and the United States. Plant species are represented by high-resolution digital images of type specimens provided by participating herbaria. It is searchable and browsable by taxon, plant name author, repository, use (food, medicine, phytochemistry, etc.), and more.

Springer Protocols

Header_logo Springer Protocols is an electronic database of reproducible laboratory protocols in the Life and Biomedical Sciences. Compiling protocols from Methods in Molecular Biology, Methods in Molecular Medicine, Methods in Biotechnology, Methods in Pharmacology and Toxicology, and Neuromethods as well as from Laboratory Handbooks, Springer Protocols offers researchers access to nearly thirty years worth of time tested, easily reproducible, step-by-step protocols for immediate use in their lab.

Springer E-books Now Available

The University of Chicago Library is pleased to provide electronic access to most Springer-Verlag books published in 2005 and 2006 and to new 2007 titles as they become available online.

We are planning to include records for these books in the Library's on-line catalog.  However, we are experiencing some problems with loading the records. 

In the meantime, you can access these titles directly on the Springer search page.  On that page, you can seach by keyword;  then limit your search results by choosing books in the right hand column under Content Type.  If we have full text access to the book, you will see a green box just to the left of the entry.

Cover_2 Geotechnique, a journal covering soil and rock mechanics, engineering geology and environmental geotechnics, is available online:

Springer E-Books are here!

Springer_ebooks_blog_3 The University of Chicago Library is pleased to provide electronic access to most Springer-Verlag books published in 2005 and 2006 and to new 2007 titles as they become available online. We are currently in the process of loading title-level records for each book into our online catalog. While awaiting online catalog access, you can keyword search for books directly on the Springer search page: http://springerlink.com/home/main.mpx

Limit your search by choosing “books” in the right hand column under “Content Type". If we have full text access to the book, you will see a green box just to the left of the entry.

You can use this same search page to search for book chapters and journal articles published by Springer.

New platform for Biological Abstracts and Zoological Record

Biological Abstracts and Zoological Record are now hosted on the ISI Web Knowledge platform instead of Ovid.  Besides the ability to quickly search an article's cited references and citing articles,  ISI Web of Knowledge enables users to search both Biological Abstracts and Zoological Record through ZooBank (http://www.zoobank.org).  ZooBank, a joint development between the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN) and Thomson Zoological, Ltd.,  is an online, open-access register providing access to 1.5 million scientific names of animals.

DiscoveryGate for Beilstein, Gmelin and More

DiscoveryGate access to Beilstein, Gmelin, and several new databases is now available.  University users can access from on campus by pointing their browsers to http://www.discoverygate.com  and selecting the Download Center tab.  Windows and Mac instructions are given.
