Prof. Richard Kron to speak at exhibit reception

Changing the Face of Medicine exhibit at the Crerar Library

Dr. Janet Rowley to speak on May 18 in conjunction with exhibit!

Changing the Face of Medicine:  Celebrating America’s Women Physicians

"This exhibition honors the lives and achievements of women in medicine. Women physicians have excelled in many diverse medical careers. Some have advanced the field of surgery by developing innovative procedures. Some have won the Nobel prize. Others have brought new attention to the health and well-being of children. New Exhibit in Crerar Library

NASA1.medium Visions of Heaven:  Astronomical Observation through the Ages
April 13-October 2, 2009

From ancient times to the modern day, humans have charted the sky and stars.  View a history of the tools they used, from the earliest observatories and instruments to recent innovations in telescope technology.   This exhibit is in conjunction with the celebration of the International Year of Astronomy 2009, the 400th anniversary of Galileo’s use of the telescope.  More information is  available here: http://www.lib.uchicago.edu/e/crerar/exhibits/.

New Exhibit in Crerar Library

Science at the University of Chicago:  A History from the Library's Archival Photofiles

View more than 100 years of rarely seen photos of groundbreaking
University of Chicago research. See shots of the Yerkes Observatory –
the birthplace of astrophysics – and of famous science faculty
such as Enrico Fermi.

This exhibit highlights the history of the science department buildings at the University, focusing on their designs and technologies.

The Exhibit runs through March 31, 2009

Cancer Research at the University of Chicago exhibit by the CAC

Cancer In recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the University of Chicago Chapter of Colleges Against Cancer has created an exhibit in the John Crerar Library entitled "Cancer Research at the University of Chicago."

The exhibit is located on the 1st floor of the Library, in the reference area by the computers.

New exhibit: Something's Brewing

Crerar's newest exhibit - "Something's Brewing: The Art, Science and Technology of Brewing" - features publications from the Library's collections.  Five cases cover the  history of brewing, raw materials, science of brewing, technology of brewing, and brewing in Chicago.

The John Crerar Library: A Pictorial History

Crerarphoto2_1 This permanent exhibit of images, documents and artifacts traces the history of The John Crerar Library, from its establishment in 1895 through to the present day.

Reproduced in the exhibit are a number of historical photographs seeking to Crerar1_2 convey the architecture and ambience of the four separate buildings that successively accommodated the John Crerar Library collection.  The exhibit is now available for viewing on the first floor of the John Crerar Library.

Images have been drawn from the digital archive of the University of Chicago Special Collections Research Center, and from various publications of The John Crerar Library and

Beilstein Rained Out!

The University of Wisconsin Madison campus is experiencing flooding due to heavy rains.  The Beilstein Minerva server is being shut down and is expected to be unavailable for several hours.  More news will be posted later today or early tomorrow.
