Chemical Abstracts Service is discontinuing all access to SciFinder via the desktop client software as of June 30, 2011. University of Chicago access will be managed as follows:
- Effective March 1, 2011, the option to download the DESKTOP client will no longer be available.
- All users are strongly encouraged to set up their WEB account and begin using SciFinder on the web as soon as possible.
- Allocation of available seats (concurrent sessions) will be shifted gradually from the DESKTOP client to WEB version, with all seats being allocated to the web by June 1, 2011
Features of the web version include:
- the ability to save searches and automatically run them against all new records added to the database (Keep me posted/current awareness)
- similarity search on reactions, not just substances
- sort features including sorting substance records by number of literature references
- export physical property data to Microsoft® Excel®
- add comments to specific references for sharing information and insights with colleagues
- retains search history for previous 10 search sessions
- off campus access via the proxy server
